Abstract

This study was carried at Bukit Panau Tanah Merah, Kelantan. The study area covered about 25km². Bukit Panau is a conical hill shape that made up from the sedimentary rock such as sandstone, conglomerate, shale, siltstone and mudstone (The Panau Formation), granite and andesite. The past environment for the Panau formation is stream channel and floodplain. The age for Panau Formation is Cretaceous based the plant fossil type that has been found here. The granite samples are come from the intrusion of granite or it is called as batolith and the andesite sample was taken from the dike that is intrudes the granite batolith. The granite batolith is come from the boundary range. The age of the granite batolith is Triassic. The petrographic analysis and physical properties measurements were performed on the five sample of granite and one sample of andesite which is all of the samples was taken from the Bukit Panau area. The petrographic characteristic is all about shape, size and the arrangement of the crystal. The main texture of granite is holocrystalline and phaneritic. The other types of texture that present in granite are poikilitic, seriate and feldsparphyric. The petrographic characteristic of andesite is aphanitic which is fine grain and porphyry that is phenocryst surround by the groundmass.
