Abstract

The sulphide minerals are a class of minerals that contained sulphide (S2-) as its major anion. Some of this kind of minerals is economically important as metal ores. Study of sulphide mineral is important because it serves as an indicator of gold deposit. Research proved that sulphide minerals formed due to hydrothermal alteration of the rock. The study area is located at Kuala Balah, Dabong. This study area covered about 25 kilometers square and lies at latitude 05° 24‘30‖ N to 05° 27‘ 30‖ N and longitude 101° 54‘ 30‖ E to 101° 57‘30‖E. The study area is predominantly cultivated area. The objectives of this study are to update geological map with scale 1:25000 and to determine distribution of sulphide minerals in and around the study area. The geological map has been updated at scale 1:25000 by using ArcGis 10.0. Determination of sulphide distribution was done by confirming the type of rock and its name which is intrusive granodiorite. Based on the samples that have been collected in the study area, chalcopyrite was found in the granodiorite rock and it is one of the sulphide minerals in the group class. In term of chemical analyses, X-ray fluorescence (XRF) method has been carried out. The result is distribution of sulphide minerals abundance at Bukit Dewi area and the sulphide minerals is diminishing toward northern and eastern part of Bukit Dewi.
