The activated carbon based coconut fronds as adsorbent was successfully prepared for the removal of methyl orange dye. The effect of adsorbent dosage, initial dye
concentration, contact time and pH of the solution were investigated. The calibration curve of methyl orange dye was plotted. From the result obtained, the optimum
adsorbent dosage was 3.0 g with the percentage removal of 95.01%, the optimum initial dye concentration was 200 mg/L with the percentage removal of 96.06%, the optimum contact time was 24 hours with the percentage removal of 97.43% whereas the optimum pH of the solution was pH 5 with the percentage removal of 97.525%. The experimental data were analyzed using types of adsorption isotherm models which were Langmuir and Freundlich. The equilibrium data was well expressed by the Freundlich isotherm model.
