Abstract

Antibacterial are used to treat the bacterial infections. Bacterial can be found in anywhere, even in every moment we all are contact with the bacterial which we do not know it. Bacterial can bring harmful to our human body. Vitex rotundifolia has the antimicrobial activities which the ingredients present in the traditional medicine to treat chronic as well as infectious diseases. Besides this, it also can be process to become supplement for out use purposes. Plant is soaked in the three different solvents which are methanol, petroleum ether, and ethyl acetate. The rotary evaporator used to evaperated all the unwanted solvent. Disc diffusion assay was performed to determine the antibacterial activity to inhibit the bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Shigella boydii, Enterococcus faecalis. The bacteria are incubated in 37 ° C within one day to get the results. The diameter of the inhibition zone was measured to determine the resistance bacteria. Thin Layer Chromatography was performed to determine the phytochemical profile of the Vitex rotundifolia. Iodine staining is to determine the active components which present in the Vitex rotundifolia extracts. Four bacterial are chosen to be determined the zone of inhibition of the bacteria. Only the gram-positive bacterial Bacillus subtilis, Enterococcus faecalis shows the positive result which shows a clear zone of inhibition. While, there is no effect on the gram-negative bacterial. For gram-negative bacterial Escherichia coli, Shigella boydii no results will be given out from the two bacterial. On the other hand, iodine staining show there is alkaloids and terpene component present in the Vitex rotundifolia. All the three solvent shows the positive results towards the gram-positive bacterial. The plant Vitex rotundifolia has antibacterial activity which inhibit the bacterial growth. Vitex rotundifolia contains the active components. For future study, vitex rotundifolia can be commercialized as effective natural remedies. Besides, it can make use of the essential volatile oil to process it become perfumes.
