Abstract

The interaction between beta carotene capped CdSe nanoparticles and pBR322 DNA was studied using gel electrophoresis. The results showed that the cleaving ability of β-carotene capped CdSe nanoparticles were reasonably effective on pBR322 DNA. The cleavage of DNA from Form I to Form II was mainly observed by the band formation in the gel. The band formed and the intensity of the band proves the ability of (β-carotene capped CdSe nanoparticles as DNA cleaving agent compared to other compounds. Although the β-carotene capped CdSe nanoparticles was able to convert Form I to Form II in a very significant amount, only some portion of the Form Ill was cleaved into linearized DNA (Form Ill). The synthesis of β-carotene capped CdSe nanoparticles also has given the nanoparticles the features such as higher absorbance when examined with uv-visible spectroscopy. The results obtained from the spectroscopic test revealed the shift of absorbance range to higher wavelength. Furthermore the newly synthesized β-carotene capped CdSe nanoparticle was found to be water soluble compound. This feature is important in broader field of synthesis.
