Abstract
Gelam forest is mentioned as one of the wetlands that has the most productive and valuable ecosystem that literally covered with Melaleuca cajiput tree. The ecosystem is rich in avifauna and other biodiversity. A study of avian community parameters was conducted by using the mist netting method due to the lack of data at Gelam forest as to get more information on the relative abundance, diversity indices and feeding guild of birds. From the study. a total ol‘ 150 individuals which belongs to 31 species and l0 families were captured using mist net over a course of 25 days from mid-July until early August 2017. The most abundant species recorded was Blue-tailed Bee-eater (/t/Ierops philippim/s) with the total number of individuals captured was 30 (20.00%). The diversity indices recorded was species diversity (Shannon‘s lndex: 3.8). Species richness (Margalefs lndex=5.99)_ and species evenness (Pielouis lndex=l.ll). Feeding guild that found as the most significant from the captured bird was lnsectivore (38.00%). In contrast. Insectivore/Granivore (0.67%) was the rarest guild of birds in Gelam forest. This study showed that Gelam forest is one of the ecosystems that rich in avifauna. |
