This study is aimed to prepare crude methanolic extraction from the leaves of Kaempferia galangal and Curcuma longa, to quantify the yield obtained from the extraction and to determine the phytochemical constituents and functional groups found from the extraction. The extraction was run by using Soxhlet extraction method for 6 hours. The yields obtained from the extractions were 15.26% and 12.74% for Kaempferia galangal and Curcuma longa respectively. The phytochemicals constituents and functional groups were analyzed by using phytochemical screening methods, FTIR and GC-MS. The phytochemical screening shows that Kaempferia galangal and Curcuma longa contain saponins and flavonoids. Terpenoids, steroids and alkaloids are the other phytochemical constituents that only presence in Kaempferia galangal, while tannins were absence in both extraction of Kaempferia galangal and Curcuma longa. The determination of functional groups by FTIR from Kaempferia galangal extract were determine the presence of alcohol, amino acid and alkane, while in Curcuma longa the functional groups present are alcohol, alkane and carboxylic acid. GC-MS analysis of both extracts of Kaempferia galangal and Curcuma longa had identified similar compounds from the major peaks area which are 2-methoxy-3-methyl-butyric acid, hexadecanoic acid and oleic acid.
