Mah Hassan, Nur Fathin Afifah (2020) Biomass Carbon Density (BCD) estimation in mangrove of Kuala Selangor Nature Park, measured with spaceborne imaging spectroscopy. Final Year Project thesis, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan. (Submitted) |
Abstract
Sequestration of the carbon in the mangrove forest have significant roles in nature and ecosystem. The biomass estimation has crucial role as an indicator to detect and estimate the changes of the carbon cycle in the mangrove forest. The area of research was conducted in Kuala Selangor Nature Park for estimating the above ground biomass and carbon stock. The mangrove forest image of Kuala Selangor Nature Park of 2014 was acquired from spaceborne imaging spectroscopy by using Spot 5 image. Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) was used to detect the carbon density from biomass of mangrove in Kuala Selangor Nature Park. The result of the remote sensing image was important to determine and estimate the carbon stock in research area. The NDVI value was between 0.017536 to 0.611318. The average total above ground biomass of Kuala Selangor Nature Park was 139.87 Mg/ha and the carbon stock of the forest was 65.74 Mg C/ha. |
