Abstract

To made the bioplastics more stable and effective by using different content of plasticizer and crosslinker. In this study, the objectives are the effect of using different content of glycerol and gluteraldehyde on bioplastic then determine the optimum content through tests. Next is evaluating the degradation behaviour of the samples. In this experiments, the xylan from tobacco were used, tapioca starch, glycerol and gluteraldehyde as main ingredients of the bioplastics and distilled water. Firstly, xylan from tobacco extracted using DMSO solution, then the bioplastic developed where the formulation of samples for glycerol are 0.5 wt%, 1.0 wt%, 1.5 wt%, 2.0 wt%, and 2.5 wt%. Then for gluteraldehyde are 10 μL, 20 μL, 30 μL, 40 μL and 50 μL. Then test for bioplastic to determine the optimum content using mechanical tests which are tensile strength, water activity test, biodegradation test, and moisture content test. Chemical test , FTIR analysis were made to identify the functional group of the samples and its crystalline fraction. The end results show that samples 1.0 wt% for glycerol and 20 μL for gluteraldehyde are the optimum results that can be concluded in this study. This sample of bioplastics is shown that it can be good active food packaging plastic to replace the commercial plastics.
