An abstract of the research paper was presented to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, in partial requirement for the course DVT 55204 – Research Project. Leptospirosis is a serious disease that affects livestock animals including pigs. It is a zoonotic illness with public health implications. This study was carried out to detect the presence of Leptospira spp. in pigs in Kelantan via molecular detection. Thus, 30 organ samples were collected, including 20 kidneys and 10 livers of pigs from wet market in Kelantan. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) targeting 16S rRNA gene was used for molecular detection, which was followed by gel electrophoresis. From the results, there was no Leptospira spp. detected in collected organ samples from pig in Kelantan. In conclusion, Leptospira spp. were not found in samples of pig organs taken from Kelantan wet markets.
