“...By the Olive…” is a play of strong Muslim elements that calls upon people to pursue truth and reject sin, and also to preserve the honourable status of man as bestowed by Allah. Five upright pillars emphasises the importance of adhering to the concept of the national principles, while children of this land navigates the history of Malaya starting with the British occupation, to the Japanese occupation, the return of British power, the emergency period and finally the issues that arise on the journey to independence for multi-racial Malaysia. Clapping betel leaves and dancing areca nuts discusses the issues of leadership and power in the balance of harmony between man and Allah, as well as man and the environment.
