Dhikir Serenades is a collection of poetry by Ahmad Kamal bin Abdullah (Kemala) in which he records his reactions evoked by experiences during his travels from 1982 to 1994. In this work, whereby he enriches his mother tongue with esoteric ideas, the poetry consists of two parts: Serenades and Dhikr. The writings of his inner turbulence pertaining to life in this world are penned under the category Serenades, whereas the stirrings of his soul inclined to the hereafter are found under the category of Dhikr.
The search and interpretation of true meaning in the creative experience of a poet is not a simple feat. Many may not even consider such a quest to be a benefit in enriching one’s life. Nevertheless, the creative value contained in the composition of fine poetry deserves to be preserved for posterity.
