Abstract

This research emphasized the improvement of physical properties on macarangga species (Mahang wood). Mahang is pioneer species and can be focused most in order to use as an alternative material and fast-growing. It also can save times for waiting other to grow. So, this research started from Febuary to October 2016. This objective of this research are to study the physical properties of Mahang wood in natural form and laminated form, and to study and make comparison between physical properties of laminated form and natural form of Mahang wood. This research are conducted as methodology state. Regarding this research, basic density were conducted on matured and young of mahang wood which are from top to bottom portion, sapwood and heartwood position for every sample for three replication. Water absorption capability and thickness of swelling are also conducted. This can be refer for natural form. After done recorded the value for all physical properties above, those step are repeated for laminated form too. This is because to compare the strength of mahang wood for both form. Not only that, the moisture content for this mahang wood was standardized at 12%. In a coclusion, from anova analysis and correlation analysis, this research are found that laminated form of mahang wood is more strong than natural form. This is due to the structure of wood itself.
