Abstract

General geology is the study of various landforms on earth and the geologic process that goes along with it. Petrography is the study of detailed rock characteristics. The geology of Batang Merbau shows that it contains majority of flat surfaces and connected to East-West highway which implies that the area is suitable for urbanization, settlement and agriculture. The area contains two type of lithology which is metamorphic and igneous. Igneous rock is the rock that formed from solidification of magma or lava. Geological mapping was done in order to update the geological map and rock sampling. To determine the properties of the plutonic rock in Batang Merbau area, 3 rocks samples with different color and texture was taken to examined under polarized light microscope. The result was, all 3 samples constitute same properties. Further classification was done using percentage amount of occurrence of each mineral that the sample has. Using QAP classification diagram, the result was 2 of the sample identified as granodiorite and another is granite. This shows that there are 2 types of plutonic rock that exist in Batang Merbau area.
