Abstract

This research study about the general geology and geochemical of soil in Kg. Kandek at Dabong, Kelantan. From the distribution of lithology, there can be found two type of rocks which is can be classified as igneous rock and sedimentary rock. The major lithology in the study area is dominant with sedimentary rock which is interbedded sandstone and shale on the northeast, northwest and southeast of the map. This type of rock is under Gunong Rabong Formation. Whereas, an igneous rock that is granite is found on the southeast and southwest of the map. Thus, type of formation for granite is under Main Range Formation. Besides that, a geological map and geochemical map of the study area is produced. Lineament is divided into two which is positive lineament and negative lineament. An analysis for bedding, fault and joint is conducted by taking a strike and dip of the geological structure. From the data collected, an analysis have been done by using stereonet and rose diagram to identify the direction of the force acts on the structure. A part of that, a geochemistry analysis have been done to determine heavy metals content in a soil occurrence. Heavy metals that have been analyzed are zinc (Zn), lead (Pb), iron (Fe), chromium (Cr), magnesium (Mg), copper (Cu), potassium (K) and calcium (Ca). By geological mapping, it involved two types of sampling which is rock sampling and soil sampling. For soil sampling, the method used is randomly sampling. Therefore, two type of analysis were conducted at the laboratory which is petrography analysis and geochemistry analysis by using rock and soil samples. Thus, a few parameters are used which is concentration of heavy elements, pH value, moisture content and organic content. As a conclusion, there is a relationship between the parameters. The concentration of certain heavy elements distribution of lead (Pb), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn) and chromium (Cr) is depends on the pH value of the soil. Organic content in soil also affect certain heavy elements distribution where, when the percentage of organic content higher, it tends to give a higher concentration of iron (Fe). Besides, the higher the organic content, the lower the moisture content. In contrast, the higher the organic content, the higher the pH value which is tends towards neutral but, still in acidic range because soil pH is usually in acidic.
