General geology and geomechanical characterization of limestone at Gua Musang Town, Gua Musang, Kelantan

This study is about the general geology and geomechanical characterization of limestone at Gua Musang town, Gua Musang, Kelantan. The purpose of this research are updating the geological map of Gua Musang town to scale 1:25000, determining the rock material properties of limestone and recommending the suitability of limestone of study area as aggregate material. The field mapping and laboratory tests are carried out to determine the rock physical properties of limestone and abrasiveness mechanical properties of limestone aggregates using the Los Angeles abrasion test. The lithologies of the study area are sandstone, phylite, siltstone, limestone and granite. The physical properties of limestone of study area are density, porosity and specific gravity are 2.61 g/cmᶾ, 0 and 2.67 respectively and the abrassiveness of the limestone aggregates from four different locations are 25.0%, 22.5%, 25.64% and 26.70%. The limestone of the study area is suitable to be used as the aggregate materials.
