This research focuses on the general geology and rock mechanics of metasedimentary rock at Kampung Gong Genua, Dabong, Kelantan. Rock mechanics defined as understanding the behavior of rocks and to be able to predict how they will react in response to internal and external forces action on them. The objectives of this study are to produce the geological map of the study area, to quantify the rock physical properties (density, porosity) and to correlate the rock durability test and rock physical properties. The Information gathered from field work mapping and literature review found that the study area is formed under Taku Schist formation. From petrographic analysis, the rocks are phyllite, limestone and hornfels. The rock physical properties test and rock durability test were tested on phyllite from sampling in two locations. For rock physical properties test, location l has average porosity value of 22.532% and density 1.669 g/cmᶾ, followed by location 2 has average porosity value of 23.29l% and density 2.591 g/cmᶾ. For slake durability test, location l has higher slake durability index (lԀ₂) compare to location 2. This shows that sample from location l is more durable and strong in terms of rock materials compare to location 2. Furthermore, slake durability index (lԀ₂) inversely proportional to dry density and porosity because of high grain compaction and the ability of water resistant can give higher durability of phyllite.
