Abstract

The activated carbon from coconut frond as adsorbent was successfully prepared for removal of Malachite Green (MG) dye. Batch adsorption studies were carried out for the removal of MG dye from aqueous solutions by varying operational parameters such as the effect of adsorbent dosage, concentration of MG dye, contact time and pH. The calibration curves of MG dye were plotted and the amount of the dye adsorbed was calculated. The result showed that, the optimum percentage dye removal for adsorbent dosage was 1.0 g with 99.978%. The optimum result for
concentration of MG dye was obtained at the concentration of 300 mg/L with 99.983%. Meanwhile, the optimum result for contact time was 24 hours which is the percentage removal of MG was 99.983%. For the last parameter, pH, the optimum of percentage removal of MG dye is obtained at pH 10 with 99.981%. Experimental data were analyzed by two adsorption isotherm model which are Langmuir and
Freundlich model. It was found that Langmuir isotherm model was fitted well with experimental data.
