Abstract

The removal of methylene blue dyes was determined by using activated carbon based coconut frond obtained from district of Jeli, Kelantan. The samples obtained
were old cushion of coconut frond from species of Cocos nucifera L. which were agricultural waste. The concentration of sample methylene blue dye was analysed
using UV-Visible Spectrophotometer at 668nm. The result obtained shown that the highest percentage removal on adsorbent dosage was 1.0 g with 99.76%. The optimum initial dye concentration was on 100.0 mg/L with 99.80%. Best contact time achieved at 24 hours with percentage removal of 99.66% and the optimum pH in order to remove methylene blue dye was on pH 8 with 99.74% of removal. All parameters showed positive tendency toward Langmuir isotherm model. This can be concluded that adsorption process using activated carbon based coconut frond for
removal of methylene blue dye was occurred successfully at specific homogenous sites within adsorbent and once adsorption had occupied certain site, no further action take place.
