Abstract

Banana (Musa sp.) is a staple food for millions of people as well as providing energy. It is an important cash crop providing the main source of income to rural population
as well as poverty alleviation. The main objective of the research is to reduce the polybag nursery period of banana tissue culture plantlets of Musa acuminata cv.
Berangan using different media. A Total of six media treatments were used in the research which are T1= burnt rice husk to compost (3:1), T2= coco peat to burnt rice
husk (3:1), T3= coco peat to compost (2:1), T4= burnt rice husk to compost (2:1), T5= coco peat to burnt rice husk (2:1) and Control= coco peat to compost (3:1). The
results initiated that T3 and T4 showed positive effect in enhancement of banana tissue culture plantlets growth in the five weeks of planting duration. 2:1 ratio of burnt rice husk to compost (T4) is recommended for planting banana tissue culture plantlets at polybag nursery stage due to it has many beneficial effects in plant growth and economically.
