Abstract

Parthenium hysterophorus is a weed is that harmful for human, animals, crops and biodiversity. Parthenium weed invaded Malaysia covering 10 states and infested more than 60 hectare of land. A survey was conducted to know the awareness of people in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan area about this noxious weed. KAP model was used to collect the data through face-to-face interview. Results show that the urban people of Seremban, Negeri Sembilan are more or less aware about this hazard but they have less knowledge on how to get rid this noxious weed. By combining the figures of respondents under strongly agree and agree categories on the knowledge level of people about parthenium hazard, it showed that 38.7% of people had good knowledge of parthenium hazard. The people who had medium knowledge was 25.3 % and people who had low knowledge (strongly disagree and disagree categories) was 36.0 %. Among the factors used in the KAP model, Knowledge is significantly related to the awareness of the urban people toward parthenium hazard.
