Abstract

Antioxidant is the substance that protects the cell which can be slow down and inhibit oxidative damage by free radical molecules like reactive oxygen species (ROS). Medicinal plant of O.stamineous hot water extract was investigated to determine its antioxidant activities. Antioxidant activity of whole plant of O.stamineous samples was determined by DPPH assay, total phenolic content was determined by folin ciocauteau method, total flavonoid content was determine by quercetin method and (TLC-Chromatography and TLC-DPPH assay bioautography). The whole plant of O.stamineous showed DPPH scavenging activity. Total phenolic content of hot water extract was found higher than total flavonoid content. Silica gel plate shows the TLC profile of whole plant extract from O.stamineous. The sample was significant from predicted values, indicating that models obtained are suitable to the optimisation of extraction conditions from O.stamineous. The antioxidant activity of the plant extract can be used to inhibit free radicals. O.stamineous was the plant with the most promosing activity and will be subjected to further testing and isolation of the active compounds.
