Abstract

Some plants can be used as a coloring agent. Many of these plants including Gynochthodes sublanceolata (Pitang) can be extracted the pigment and used as a colorant for biological staining and cosmetics application. The leaves from Pitang were extracted by liquid-liquid partition process and the crude extracted were dissolved in the water as to get the dissolved colorant and was tested on the onion and cheek cells, for staining process. For the process of coloring the soap, the dissolved Pitang colorant was poured into the melted glycerine, and then poured into the mold chosen. The soap was left for 15 minute before removed from the mold. The Pitang colorant used as a stained agent can be easily seen by the microscope on the organelles of onion and cheek cells. The cell were observed stained in the purplish-blue color. Pitang colorant can be used in the soap coloring process, because dark brown in color and light brown in color. From this study, it showed that the Pitang colorant can be used as a biological staining and application on the cosmetics. It convinced that null hypothesis, was accepted.
