Abstract

Quails nowadays has been likely favoured and consume by most people because of the taste of nourish egg and it was more tasty compared to chicken eggs. This experiment
observed the better lighting programme as how the effective of lighting duration can that affect the egg quality and laying performance in quails. Apart from natural daylight photoperiod, artificial lights also can be the most efficient in assisting the production of quail eggs and egg quality during the laying period of this Japanese quail (Cortunix cortunixjaponica) comes out in poultry industry. The objective of this present study is to prove the best duration of artificial lights at nights between the suitable common ranges (12hr — 16hr) that have been standardized. The methods were started by providing 2 treatment groups to this observation which was 12 hour as a control and another 14 hour and 16 hour lighting duration as treatments. The results and data was collected according to their parameter and has been analysed in One-Way ANOVA using SPSS 16.0 to measure the significant difference between the groups. The results of present study indicates that laying performance showed a
positive results on egg weight (EW) and egg production (EP) but feed intake (Fl) come out with the negatives results within the means as follow, 0.37, 0.36 and 0.31
with the P value (P>0.05). Moreover, the egg quality has noted with the negative results except for the eggshell thickness (ET) with significantly (P<0.05) and the following means 0.19, 0.20, and 0.203. The effects of egg quality indicate with the mean of each treatment, 0.20±0.0032, 87.58±1.720 and 0.688±0.02 according to mean
± SEM value relatively showed the parameter does not show any positive effect on the lighting duration. This study has recommended providing artificial lights extra 2 hour
after sunset with total l4 hours lights to the layers as 14 hours did show the best results in most parameters has been done.
