Abstract

General geological research includes investigation of lithology, geological structure, geomorphology, and petrography in Ayer Lanas, Jeli. Ayer Lanas is located at coordinate 101°53'53.1"E and 5°46'49.6"N. This area has been identified as water shortage area due to growing population of the community. The objectives of this research are to update geological data of study area by producing updated map using Geographical Information System (GIS) and identify existence and depth of potential groundwater using geophysical resistivity method for the benefit of the community. Based on geological results, it was found that the lithology of area is made up of Kemahang Granite with some quaternary deposits. To begin geophysical survey, three resistivity lines were chosen and named as horizontal line-1, horizontal line-2, and horizontal line-3. The resistivity data of the three lines were measured using ABEM Terrameter SAS 4000 and analyzed using RES2DINV software. The results were presented in the form of two dimensional images. Based on the results of geophysical survey all the three resistivity horizontal lines have potential of groundwater in unconfined aquifer with depth ranging from 1-35 meters. The success in identifying potential groundwater shows that this method is reliable and suitable to be used in this research.
