Abstract

In this study, actinomycetes were isolated from soil from Jeli area that rich and have diverse unexplored actinomycetes. Soil sample collected in all area around Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) Campus Jeli. Isolation of actinomycetes were done for the purposed to find its antifungal activity against three main fungi species that is Fusarium solani, Aspergillus niger and Rhizopus stolonifer. In the total of 42 isolates from 12 soil samples that undergo treatment and non-treatment with 50 °C for 1 hour, only 7 isolates were successfully grown. The growth pattern, aerial mass colour, pigmentation, surface morphology were documented. Among these 7 isolates only 4 isolates exhibited antifungal activity against one or two fungi. All of this 4 isolates, A1, A2, A4 and A6 have an activity against Aspergillus niger. While only A2 and A4 isolates were exhibit antifungal activity against Rhizopus stolonifer. All 7 isolates aren't able to exhibit antifungal activity against Fusarium solani. Morphological characteristic that all isolates exhibit recorded. These results have contributing to the finding and recording of more actinomycetes species that exhibit precious secondary metabolites against fungi. The community were able to utilize the actinomycetes source for use in development pharmaceutical, agricultural and also food industry products.
