Dengue fever also known as break bone fever. It is a mosquito-borne tropical disease which caused by dengue virus. Dengue fever is transmitted by the bite of an Aedes, most commonly Aedes aegypti. Each year, an estimated 100 million cases of dengue fever occur worldwide. Nowadays there are no approved vaccines for the dengue virus and no specific treatment for dengue fever. If there are possibilities of infected by dengue fever, the common treatment is by taking pain relievers with acetaminophen and avoid medicines with aspirin, which will causes worst bleeding. People relied more on traditional medicine. The example of traditional medicine in curing the dengue fever are using raw juices of papaya leaves and the decoction of mud crab or easily known as 'sup ketam'. Hence, this study is to determine the antioxidant activity of the extract of carapace from Scylla serrata (mud crab). The method involved in this study were the test of antioxidant assay by using DPPH solution and TLC-DPPH test for ethanol and acetone extracts of mud crab's carapace. It is concluded that mud crab shows the presence of antioxidant activity.
