Abstract

This experiment was carried to investigate determine the best angle that can produce high number of new shoot emergence as the best planting material for mass propagation of sugarcane cv. Betung. The experiment was done in Bukit Perawas Ayer Lanas, Kelantan. The Saccharum Officinarum cv. Betung seed ages at planting was 5 months old and involve five different angles in planting the planting material. The angles that have been tested were 0°, 22.5°, 45°' 66.5° and 90 °. The plant growth and the development parameters that were recorded were the number of emergence, length of shoot and girth of shoot. The result shows that the angles that can be used to mass propagation in sugarcane planting material were 0° and 90 °. There might also be some other environmental factor that affects the growth of emergence. For instance soil fertility and intensity of sunlight. Therefore, in mass propagation of sugarcane planting material, 0° and 90 ° can be used as the planting angles. Besides that, the species that is selected was Saccharum Officinarum cv. Betung because of the shelf life of the juice can last longer as compared to the other 3 species and the sweetness are not too sweet based on the sugar test content.
