Abstract

The black soldier fly, Hermetic illucens L. is a beneficial insect which consume biodegradable waste into valuable self-biomass that economically important for agriculture and biofuel industry. The H. illucens was reared on rotten rice at 26°C was show slow larval and prepupae growth development. The hatching period is on 4.2 day and begin migrate out on 20.5 day. The larvae required about 46 days to begin the developed prepupae. On 62nd day, the prepupae over larvae rate is about 34.14%, survival rate is 56.5% eggs to prepupae. The larvae show a rapid growth after hatching until 30th day and the from mean length and width are 18 mm and 4.5 mm respectively. The H. illucens larvae rearing with same food source under same environment was showing size vary up to 10 mm in length within the population. Besides, the H. illucens larvae and prepupae facing food shortage will decreasing in length but not width. The nutrient content of H. illucens is significant different between larvae and prepupae stage. The H. illucens prepupae have higher and concentrate nutritional value compare to larvae stage which is 63.10°/0 moisture, 8.58% ash, 41.53% % ash, 30.67% protein and 5.06% chitin where else the larvae is 68.19°/0 moisture, 4.91 protein and 3.55% chitin.
