Abstract

This research was done to evaluate the toxicity level of using Testosterone undecanoate hormone against Artemia nauplii and Betta splendens fish fry. The mortality rate of newly hatched Artemia nauplii found in two fold serial dilution was recorded after received treatments of different concentrations of Testosterone undecanoate hormone at different time intervals, that are 24, 48, 54, 66, and 73 h(s). The logarithms of hormone concentrations at 48 h(s) of incubation period were applied in Probit analysis by using Minitab version 17 and thus the LC₅₀ value was determined. Dosage of 40 mg/kg homogenized fish meal was prepared and used to feed the B. splendens fish fry orally starting from day five up to day nine. The mortality rate was recorded daily and compared to that without received hormone treatment. The LC₅₀ value of Testosterone undecanoate hormone of Artemia nauplii at 48 h(s) incubation period was in range of 5557 ppm to 5623 ppm. The average mortality rate of day nine old B. splendens fish fry in hormone treatment environment was 43.8 % which was higher than 37.1 % in no hormone treatment environment. In conclusion, Testosterone undecanoate hormone has the potential to cause chronic toxic effect on the Artemia nauplii and B. splendens fish fry.
