This report presented the DNA cleavage activity of extracts from M.pigra. This research has covered the extraction of M. pigra using different solvent such as ethanol, methanol and water and also extraction of plasmid DNA. The extracted were incubated with DNA plasmid derived from E. coil for 30 minutes. The mixtures were subjected in agarose gel electrophoresis pre-stained with ethium bromide. Different concentration of plant extract was observed for the plasmid DNA cleavage activity using gel electrophoresis. Based on observation, the ethanolic and methanolic extract shows an increase intensity of bend while the aqueous one is constant. The result shows that the M. Pigra exhibit DNA cleavage activity and ethanol extraction show the best bend in which means ethanol extraction induced a better DNA cleavage compare to the other extracts. In conclusion, the extract from M. pigra have DNA cleavage activity and further study are required.
