Abstract

Rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae L. is one of the major pests of stored commodities. Normally, the adult S. oryzae feed on rice and the females lay eggs inside rice kernels. The aim of the study was to study the insecticidal activities against S. oryzae by using two different medicinal plants, Senduduk (M. malabathricum) and Chilli (C. annuum) at different concentration. The concentrations used were 1%, 2% and 4%. The ethanol extracts were applied on rice with the present of S. oryzae under laboratory condition. In this study, there is no significant difference in these two medicinal plants for their insecticidal activities toward the S. oryzae. For leaf extraction, M. malabathricum with concentration of 1% and 4% and also C. annuum with concentration of 1% shows the highest number of dead S. oryzae. As for stem extraction, 2% concentration of M. malabathricum showed the best results. For root extraction, 1% concentration C. annuum showed the highest mortality.
