Abstract

Bananas (Musaspp) are amongst the most importance food crops in the worlds. Cultivated bananas (Musaspp) are mostly diploid or triploid cultivars with various combinations of the A and B genomes. In this study, molecular techniques was used to analyze the genetic variation among selected banana cultivars Berangan and Embun for the AAAgenome,Tanduk and Nangka for the genome AAB, and Mas and JariBuaya for the genome AA. Multiplication of fragment by using PCR technique for IRAP(Inter-Retrotransposon Amplified Polymorphism) markers were used to analyze DNA and to differentiate among selected banana cultivars. The IRAP primers used are Nikita, LTR 6149, 3'LTR and Sukkula, 3'LTR and Nikita, LTR 6149 and Sukkula. The primer combinations of 3'LTR and Sukkula are able to generate polymorphism of DNA among banana cultivars. Furthermore, the use of appropriate primer combinations could enable the development of DNA fingerprint for genetic diversity among different cultivars.
