Abstract

This present study describes the production of bioethanol from kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus) waste as a source of alternative. Kenaf or its scientific name is Hibiscus cannabinus is a warm-season annual fiber crop and as the most promising plant. The method used in the study was solid-state fermentation process. This study was taken up to determine the role of some parameters such as temperature, pH and fermentation time on bioethanol production from kenaf waste using Saccharomyces cerevisiae. This study mainly focused on the parameters which were identified to be the optimum conditions resulting revealed that temperature 47°C, pH 5 and 72 hours of fermentation time which produced 52.887%, 9.940% and 77.437% respectively. This study could establish the effective utilization of kenaf waste for bioethanol production with optimized fermentation parameters.
