Abstract

Ethanol synthesis from corn stalk through the process of fermentation was studied. The process involve in breaking the lignocellulosic materials of the corn stalk through enzymatic hydrolysis. Commercial enzyme Viscozyme LC, were used in breaking the corn stalk lignocellulose materials into fermentable sugar. Enzymatic hydrolysis were determined as an effective method in synthesis of bioethanol. The aim of this study was to study the production process of bioethanol and then analyse the composition of ethanol by using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Factor that were analyzed was the effect of temperature during enzymatic hydrolysis and the effect of corn stalk loading on the concentration of ethanol produced. From the study it was determined that temperature 50°C producing higher concentration while the lowest is temperature treatment at 40°C which may suggest the optimum temperature during enzyme hydrolysis on producing bioethanol from corn stalk.
