Abstract

This present study was conducted to determined a antioxidant and antibacterial activity of fresh leaves and stem of Gynochthodes sublanceolata The extract of leaves and stem of G.sublanceolata is believed to have potential for antibacterial and antioxidant activity (anticancer activity). Pitang leaves and stem was soaked in acetone for 20 minutes using sonicater and repeated for 3 times to get the sample extract. DPPH Free Radical scavenging assays proved that the extract plays role as a poor antioxidant agent because it is not achieve IC₅₀. The chemical profile of the sample also has been done by using Thin Layer Chromatography methodology with visualization method of Ferric Chloride. The extract was proved to inhibit the growth of certain bacteria which were Escherichia.coli and Staphylococcus aureus by Disc Diffusion Test (DDT). Result also indicate that the extract shows its antimicrobial activity against the gram positive and gram negative bacteria. The leaves extract of pitang shows the higher of zone inhibition compared the stem extract. This is indirectly concludes that because leaves extract has higher antimicrobial activity compared to the stem extract
