Abstract

Soil erosion becomes a major problem in most country as the eroded soil will lose its krtility when the fertile top soil is removed when precipitation occur. It is also causing sedimentation when the eroded soil is being washed away by water and entering the water body and later polluting the water. This study is focusing on producing potential soil erosion map in Jeli district by integrating Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) with Geographical Information System (GIS). The parameters are the rainfall erosivity factor (R), soil erodibilty factor (K), slope length factor (L), slope steepness factor (S), crop management factor (C), and conservation practice factor (P). Raster calculator available in GIS toolbox was used to calculate the USLE parameters and obtaining the annual soil loss for Jell district. The result showed 80 percent of the Jeli district area is low eroded area, 17 percent is moderately eroded, and 3 percent of the area in highly eroded.
