Abstract

A detailed study on the geology and microfacies of Gua Pagar, Dabong, Kelantan was conducted. Gua Pagar is one of the cave which located in Dabong, Kelantan with Latitude 50 21' 19.7" N and Longitude 102° l' 40.5" E. The area of Gua Pagar was made up by Gua Musang Formation. The age of Gua Musang Formation was Middle Permian to Upper Triassic. Gua Musang Formation was formed in Gua Musang area, South of Kelantan and extended to North Kelantan. The karst morphology that found at here were cave, stalagtite. stalagmite and pillar. This area has strike towards North-east. The lithology of Gua Pagar is mainly comprised of limestone and interbedded sandstone, siltstone and shale. The colour of the limestones were grey to dark grey in colour. The detailed work in field and lab indicates that the types of limestones that found is micrite limestone, oomicrite, pelmicrite, sparitic dolomite, dolomitic pelsparite, ferroan dolomitic pelsparite, ferroan calcitic micrite limestone and biomicrite. Inorganic allochems for example oolite and peloid are also found. From the di analysis, there are several main diagenetic processes which are dolomitization and stilolitization. The detailed mapping and microfacies analysis showed that the depositional environment of Gua Pagar is at shallow marine environment.
