Abstract

A study was conducted in a lowland mixed dipterocarp forest at Gunung Basor Forest Reserve, Kelantan to study tree species diversity, composition and richness. A total of 150 individuals belonging to 85 species, 60 genera and 33 families across all sizes from 3.8-m height and above were enumerated and identified. The assessment of relative density, relative frequency, relative dominance and important values of tree species revealed that Dyera costulata represents the most dominant species (Iv = 14.14) among all the tree species studied with the respect to dominance. Mangifera griffithii (Iv = 11.23), Neobalanocarpus heimii (Iv = 10.23), Ficus sp. (Iv =9.72) and Dipterocarpus geniculatus (Iv = 8.82). The least dominant species is Dacryodes costata (Iv = 1.71) and followed by Diospyros latisepala (Iv = 1.72 ), Pterocymbium javanicum (Iv = 1.77 ), Alangium ebenaceum and Neoscortechinia kingii (Iv = 1.77), Anticiesma bunius and Shorea chlorantum (Iv = 1.78) and Melanochyla auriculata and Lithocarpus densiflorus (Iv = 1.82).
