Abstract

In this study, the main objective is to analyse macro-minerals percentage of potassium (K), sodium (Na) and chloride (CI) in two types of commercial cat food (dry and wet). Each type is divided into three categories based on their commercial values named as Premium, Normal and Budget categories. The samples are randomly selected in the market with barcode differences to achieve total randomization. The selected samples are composited into ten individual samples for each category. The samples are analysed for K, Na, and Cl, pH and moisture content. K and Na are analysed by using Aqua-Regia method and run through ICP. However, Cl is analysed by Mohr Method. The results were subjected to statistical analysis to find out the level of significant difference between the categories of samples on each type of cat food at 5% significant level. Correlation analysis was conducted to analysis the relationship between the Premium, Normal, and Budget categories. The analysed results were compared and determined whether they comply with the international standard, AAFCO values. All results for K, Na, and CI were found not to comply with the international standard. For pH and moisture content results are in line with the recommended value of commercial pet foods.
