Abstract

Solid waste management is a serious problem in most of the developing world. Good solid waste management service gave a better satisfaction to the residents. Five selected mukims in Jasin District were chosen and 55 respondents were randomly selected in order to explore these issues. The objectives of this study are to discuss on current solid waste management practice by residents in Jasin District and their willingness to pay on an improvement of solid waste service. This study also analyses the correlation between factors associated with the respondent's willingness to pay decision-making. The variables examined were education, income per month and awareness of the population. The results showed that respondents have a good understanding of general solid waste management service. They are aware on the current situation of solid waste management in their area. However, they are refused to pay for the improvement since they are satisfied with the current services. Based on this study, it was found that the level of respondent's education plays an important factor in order to give better understanding of solid waste management services.
