Abstract

In understanding the processes and structure of the Earth, a geologist records their observation on a map known as geological map. Geological mapping was a difficult procedure involving multiple complex technologies until researchers discovered the potential of Geographical Information System (GIS). With the application of GIS in geological mapping, it became very easy for surveyors to create 2D or 3D maps for any area with precise and desired scaling. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to understand general geology and produce geological map of the study area including examining the suitability of GIS software in producing geological map based on the geological map parameter. Methods used for the geological map production involve three phases of activities which are phase 1 is the pre-activities where the writer familiarized the study area by reading reports and literature review, phase 2 is field activities where the writer start making observation and collecting data at the study area and phase 3 is post-field activities where all the data collected is analyzed using ArcGIS. After all of the phases have been done, the geological map of Kg. Sungai Bayu with a scale of 1:25000 is produced where the study area majorly covered by dolomitic limestone with some subordinate of phyllite.
