Abstract

A seismic refraction survey was conducted in Jeli hot spring area in Jeli district, Kelantan. This hot spring area is located in Helai River valley and surrounded by hilly area about lkm from the East-West Expressway in Bendang Lawa village. Batu Melintang sub-district. This research discusses the seismic refraction investigation of the hot spring. Geological mapping was conducted to observe surface geological condition and seismic refraction survey was conducted to interpret the subsurface geological condition and the geological structure which control the formation of the hot spring. A total of three spread lines were conducted in Jeli Hot spring. Primary velocity data was acquired and recorded using MCSEIS 170 model 1119 seismograph with the seismic waves being triggered by an impact and detected by arrays of sensitive devices called geophones. The seismic refraction method identified two main layers of geomaterials. The result consist of top soil/residual soil(100-1300 mis),5-15 m and weathered igneous bedrock(3000-3700 m/s).45 m. The seismic refraction profiles revealed the existing of weak zone which possible of any fracture, joint and fault.
