Abstract

This research was conducted with the goals to identify the potential of Black Tongkat Ali, Eurycoma longifolia on the masculinization of brine shrimp, Artemi salina and to identify the toxicity level in E. longifolia steam extract. Five concentration of Black Tongkat Ali, E. Longifolia extract are prepared that are 0.02gL⁻¹,0.04 gL⁻¹, 0.06 gL⁻¹, 0.08 gL⁻¹, and 0.10 gL⁻¹.:1 with the control. Three replication of the solution is done for toxicity test. For the masculinization, the brine shrimp, Artemia are soaked in the extract for 14 days and the sex of the Artemia observe under the light microscope. The result showed that E. longifolia has the potential for the masculinization of Artemia where 82.4% of the male nauplii of Artemia produced in 0.08 gL⁻¹ concentration that is the highest among the other treatinent. One- way ANOVA analysis reveals the Artemia bioassay highly significance from different concentration used (p<0.01). Follow-up comparison between the composite groups by Tukey's pairwise multiple-comparison test (a =0.05) showed that the effect of the extract can be divided into 4 groups with 0.10 gL⁻¹ showed highest toxicity level (4.00± 1.00).
