Abstract

This experiment was carried out to study the effect of antimicrobial activity in 10 local plants against 4 types of bacteria which are Escherichia coli, Pseudomona s spp., Salmonella spp. and Vibrio spp. Recently, the study of revealed the antibacterial agent in local plants extract is very limited. Therefore, this research will fulfill the gap and loop hole left by previous researchers. Those bacteria are chosen because they are disease-causing bacteria for aquatic life and may affect aquaculture itself. Directly, human and public health also will be affected as consumers. Solvent used in this study is methanol 70%. The solvent used to extract the plants sample before tested onto bacteria growth. Bacteria anti-susceptibility test is screening by using well-diffusion method. Among the 10 local plants used, only two types of plants showed negative inhibition action against all 4 bacteria tested. They are Sweet flag plant (Acorus calamus L.) Wild maracuja (Passiflora foetida L.) The other remaining plants which are Bird paradise (Strelitzia reginea), Bitter leaf (Vernonia amygdalina),Finger root (Boesenbergia rotunda L.), Hibiscus (Hibiscus rosasinensis), Pandan leave (Pandanus amaryllifollus), Physic nut (Jatropha curcas L.), Red Javanese ixora (Ixora javanica L.) and Siamese rough brush (Streblus aspen L.) showed different inhibition activity.
