Banana pseudostem weevil, Odoiporus longicollis is one of the major pest of banana (Musa spp.) plants causing the decreased of banana production worldwide. Farmers always depend on chemical pesticides to control this pest, but the expenditure of chemical pesticides is high. The present study was carried out to study the preferences of 0. longicollis towards different decayed stage of different type of banana pseudostem which are Berangan and wild banana under laboratory conditions. Both of the banana pseudostems (Berangan and wild banana) were allowed to decay for 1, 3, 5 and 7 days respectively and used for the experiment. Twenty 0. longicollis were released in a special design trap and left overnight. The preferences of the weevils were checked the day after. Results revealed that 7 days of Berangan decayed pseudostem (0.83) has more attractant property compared to 3 days wild decayed pseudostem (0.67). The results suggest that Berangan decayed pseudostem extract based attractant can be used as the trapping agent for the management of 0. longicollis at the same time reduce the use of chemical pesticides.
