Abstract

Edwardsiellosis caused by Edwardsiella tarda is one of disease of Red Hybrid Tilapia. It can become serious disease if farmers did not take any further research on the bacteria which caused edwardsiellosis. This study was conducted to identify and isolate E. tarda from Red Hybrid Tilapia species. Antibiotic Susceptibility Test was also conducted to determine the resistance, intermediate and sensitive antibiotic towards the bacterium in the fish towards 19 different antibiotics. From the present study, Edwardsiella tarda were successfully isolated from Red Hybrid Tilapia. Antibiotic susceptibility test result indicated that the bacteria were sensitive towards Florfenicol and Chloramphenicol more than 80 % of inhibition zones. Moreover, the isolated E. tarda seemed to be highly resistance to Oleandomycin, Oxytetracyline, Erythromycin and Tetracyline with 90 % and above of resistance. For the Multiple Antibiotic Resistance value, sampled fish have high risk exposure to the tested antibiotics in which the value recorded was 0.61 which is higher than the normal value of 0.2.
