With more and more plastics being employed in human lives and increasing pressure being placed on capacities available for plastic waste disposal, the need for biodegradable plastics and biodegradation of plastic wastes has assumed increasing importance in the last few years. This study mainly focused at the technological advancement made in the development of more easily biodegradable plastics and the biodegradation of conventional plastics by microorganisms. The objectives in this study were to characterize and to evaluate physical and mechanical properties of modified starch plasticized with propylene glycol. Besides, the characterization of thermoplastic starch were examined using FT-IR analysis. The thermoplastics starch were manufactured using difference percentage of rubber used by which the percentage value were 0%, 20%, and 50% based from weight of the starch. Next, thermoplastics starch were tested for their physical and mechanical properties which were Scanning Electron Machine (SEM) and water absorption test for physical testing whereas tensile and bending testing for mechanical test. Therefore, from the experiment conducted, it was indicated that thermoplastic starch with 50% rubber percentage have dominant result which showed best and potential to be used as thermoplastic starch material product.
