Abstract

Lansium domesticum or Longkong is one of the local fruits and can be found in worldwide as it carries various functions such as anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antifungus. It is believed that essential oils from Longkong has high quality and can be use as an antibacterial properties in daily life. In this study, essential oil from Longkong was extracted by using two different methods which are steam distillation and Soxhlet extraction. Steam distillation is one of the easiest method used to extract essential oil as it does not need any solvent and can produce high quality of essential oil by using separatory funnel while Soxhlet extraction produce essential oil using rotary evaporator in a crude form. This study was conducted to investigate the different methods of extraction, to determine the constituents of Longkong essential oil and to determine its antibacterial activities. In this study, the antibacterial activity of Longkong essential oil has been found against Staphylococcus aureus
