Abstract

The research was carried out to examine the effect of fish meal on the growth condition of the Syrian Hamster, M.auratus. Other than that, the chemical and nutritional analysis of the fish meal (crude protein, crude fat, ash and moisture) were tested. Three different types of feeds were given to the Syrian Hamster, M.auratus which were pellet, fish meal and carrots for around eight weeks. The results showed that M.auratus that was fed with the pellet showed better growth performance in terms of body weight and body length, followed by fish meal and carrots. The difference body weight of Syrian hamster that consumed pellet for eight weeks of feeding period were the highest which is 27.71g followed by fish meal 21.12g and carrots 18.58g. The average body length gained for Syrian Hamster that consumed pellet were the greatest which is increase 2,20 cm in, followed by fish meal 2.00 and carrots 1.90 cm. The greater growth performances of the Syrian Hamster was probably due to the complete nutrient content consumed by the hamsters from the given feed.
